You Do It For The Music

I’ll be completely honest,I haven’t really gone to any shows lately. I know I’m failing at life. Mainly, I’m trying to save money because I’m pre-approved to buy a house! I’m also traveling as much as I can, and I’m also going to meetings and interviews like crazy! Because I’m a workaholic.

But long story I’ve been super busy, I think this is my first time blogging in about two or three weeks. And I really don’t have anything to say besides festival season and baseball season are upon us.

And also, I want you to remember,  your friends who play and the local artists who do this for a living, for a living. We really don’t live off much, we are actually pretty poor in this industry.

I met with a girl from Marquette University (which is my alumni), and the one thing I told her was “If you want to be in this industry, you do it for the music, not for the money”.

“Drunk People”

Dating is such a weird thing. Because it’s a grey area of “do I like you, or do I not like you”.  Will this work, what if it crashes and burns? But just remember, everyone is in the same boat. Everyone is an idiot when it comes to dating… right?

There should be more songs about awful dates, but I think it’s more fun to write about drunk people… right?

Ryan Hurd, an upcoming country artist in town is singing about it. As we speak. I’ve seen him perform a couple of times now.

Obviously being a guy, it’s much easier to write about drunk people and girls… right?

Yeah, I think so too. I’m lucky enough to know the guys that won’t the song with him. It’s catchy and it’s true! If there is one thing I can appreciate about the new upcoming country artist in Nashville. They are real, they write about real things and it’s meaningful. …Well I don’t know about drunk people, but the rest of country music!

Check it out!

“Courage, Please Don’t Fail Me Now”

Yay! According to WordPress, It’s my four year anniversay on WordPress… Now, where’s my hot toddy.

…Oh wait, I’m already drinking it. Today in Nashville, we are having a “snow day”. Don’t get me wrong, it’s cold here… but there sure ain’t no snow! And that’s why I’m drinking a hot toddy.

But with that being said, there’s a lot of people that are in Nashville that are from the south. Which is not a bad thing, especially when it comes to music. A lot of southern musicians started singing in church. Heck, look at queen bee AKA Beyonce!

I’ve always had a thing with music from Texas. Especially Texas country. Don’t get me wrong, I like music from all different parts of the country, put Texas country really hits home with me.

I’m lucky to call my Ryan Beaver my friend. He was one of the first people I met here, and I try to go see him perform whenever I can. Because damn, it is some good Texas country.

Rolling Stone named him one of the top country artists to watch for, he’s also been on Sirius XM radio and has over 30,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

If you don’t believe me, take a listen for yourself.

“Forever Cold”

So I went to this event… Me, going to an event, so unheard of! (Sarcasm at its’ max!) I went to this event back in March. I had to work that night, so I couldn’t stay long. But there was this band, I never heard of in my life. They were the opening act, two acts before Scars on 45. I can honestly say, they blew me away!

The Band is called Smooth Hound Smith. They have a blues, folk, americana sound to their music. It’s quite catchy if you ask me. I’ve be lucky enough to see them a couple more times because I think they are quite good.

But the cool thing about them is the duo is  just them. Making all the wonderful music. And they are based out of East Nashville, so that’s pretty baller too!

If you are looking to check out a new band, look no further, this duo is the bees knees! Find them on the information highway!

… The internet if you didn’t get the reference!

“Ex’s and Oh’s”… No She Didn’t!

I think I finally got it together, and I’ll bring this blog back to what it is suppose to be. A music blog.

I want this blog, to be another outlet so readers can gain more insight on  festival experiences, good music to listen to and overall just plain, damn good music.

At least, that’s what I hope it to be. But don’t worry, I’ll still cry me a river once in a while on here…

As I drove on my way up to Milwaukee, I was listening, on blast Elle King. Why? Because she’s a badass chick who has blues rock influenced in her music. Don’t get me wrong, I love her single “Ex’s and Oh’s”, but the rest of her album is not like that. At all.

Also, just like every other musician, she struggled in Nashville to fit in, and just like everyone else, she worked really damn hard to get to where she wants to be.

Her music isn’t just good, she’s just really awesome!

My Birthday:What I’ve Learned

Yesterday was  my birthday. Yes, I am a year older. Yes, I have more wrinkles and more cellulite. The joys of getting older. And I still don’t have a roadie job lined up for next year. But as I went to McKay’s today to look through thousands of discounted books, I realized, I may not be where I want to be right now, but I’m constantly trying to work on making myself better.

I work out, read, continue to reach out to those who know more than me, and most importantly, trying to do whatever I can to be the best person I can be.

And so here is my promise to myself:

To continue to work on getting on the road

To always look on the bright side of things

To make sure the people that are important to me get my attention and the attention they deserve

But most importantly,I want to stay true to myself and always believe in myself

I never thought I would post a Justin Bieber song, but this is brilliant! #loveyourself

As of Now… I’m OK

It’s been a while since I’ve written a post.

Unfortunately, my computer was stolen and it put my blogging on a hiatus. I’m so sorry for those of you who actually read my blog.

Update on my life, I’m working a lot for a merchandising company,as a brand ambassador and doing some freelancing for live events on the side. I thought I was going to be going on tour, but it looks like another plan on mine fell through. However, I’m going to keep fighting and keep going because I have a goal to be on tour. Because all I have at this point is myself, my self worth and the people who believe in me.

I have a passion for my life and those who are involved. It may seem that people think I’m crazy because, well because I am.

And I’m OK with that.

All anyone needs to know, is I’m going to keep plugging along like I’ve always have.

As of now… I’m OK.

“Let’s Talk About Sex”

Let’s talk about something that I’m super intrigued by, because it has a huge impact on the music world.

Sex

I have no idea why, we let it impact our lives so much, but it does. So let’s talk about it.

I said in before, 90% of the songs are about love; well, let’s just say, half of those songs are literally about sex. I mean really! There are some childhood songs of mine, I had no idea were so “dirty”. Example: Spice Girls “Wannabe”.

I was so heartbroken to know that my childhood was tampered with. But the list goes on people. It goes on for a very long time!

Not to say it’s a bad thing, but not it’s taken over how we imagine ourselves. I recently went back home and everyone said I look so “Nashville”. I have no idea what exactly that means, but I’m assuming it has to do with my sex appeal.

Yes, I work behind the scenes, but I still maintain an appearance, because that is important in the industry. To a point, I may add. But with that being said, sex sells.

It’s marketing, it’s science, it’s whatever you want to make it to be.

Find Your Own Voice

I recently went to go see Pitch Perfect 2. And it was awesome. But there was a part in the movie that I really related to.

Beca (Anna Kendrick) got an internship working at a record label. Long story short, her boss asks for one of her demos. She gives it to  him and it’s a mash up that she created. They are sitting in the break room and she asks him what he thought. I can’t remember word for word but he pretty much said, it’s not an original, you need to have a voice to make it in the industry.

And it struck me because I was at a writers round the other night, and all the artists were fantastic. But this one guy literally, sounded exactly like Hunter Hayes.

Then there’s me. A short, blonde chick from a suburb, trying to make a name for herself in this Music City.

It got me thinking, do we need to be extraordinarily different in order to make it? Do we need to go above and beyond to make sure, no one else is like us?

So how do we go about it? The guy at the writers round can’t change his voice. I can dye my hair a different color, but at the end of the day, I’m still me.

It’s a very daunting idea that there are so many of us in this city trying to go after the same thing. Because all the top executives and people see are just a bunch of kids. Literally trying to do the same thing.

My Point: I guess it is about digging deep down and finding who you are. Who you are defines your voice. If you have a strong, confident, powerful voice, maybe it will actually get you to where you want to go.

“It’s The Most Wonderful Time of Year”… For Me At Least

Ahhhh yes!

It’s that time of year again! Yes, that’s right… it’s festival season!

I can officially say I’ll be back at Summerfest for my fourth year as a production assistant. And I’m pumped! I think things will be different because there are “family members” that aren’t returning this year. But to me, they will always be Summerfest family because they were there when I started.

But if you haven’t checked out the lineup, I mean come on! It’s ballin’!

Needless to say, I think all the festivals are doing a fantastic job this year in regards to the line up. I guess the zombie apocalypse is really going to happen, everyone is going out on tour this year and I want to get there last hoorah in!

…But really, you should head up to the 414 area code and go to the World’s Largest Music Festival in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Yes, we have 11 stages with acts playing from noon to midnight for 11 days. 11 days! Oh, and there’s this band called the “Rolling Stones”, maybe you’ve heard of them. They will be there too!

My Point: Go to Summerfest, it’s going to be awesome! http://summerfest.com
