#HeartOut

The thing I love about Music City, is discovering new music. But sometimes I don’t even find new music here in the city. Sometimes, music just pops up out of nowhere or someplace else.

…Also known as getting the hell out of bed and exploring this beautiful world.

In 2014, I was promised a full time job from a company. Long story short, that company went back on their word and I didn’t get it. So instead of getting even, I just went on to work on my own life.

2014 I went down to SXSW, and given the chance, I would do it all again! I love Austin and I love SXSW!

There were two big bands that everyone wanted to see… well I wanted to see. Echosmith and The 1975. Since then, both bands have become some of the biggest pnenomeons when it comes to music and what we listen to today.

I recently went home for a couple of days and I went to see The 1975. Finally! I was so pumped to see them! And they didn’t disappoint, that was probably one of the best lighting shows I’ve seen a while!

With that being said,  as much as I like the band, their music and overall vibe. I don’t understand their audience. It’s a bunch of #Tweeniebopers. It’s like zombies who came out of the wood word, where the hell did they come from?

I guess I can’t complain, because they knew the words to every song, but I mean… Really?

“And I Do”

There’s a saying, “Fashion repeats itself”. There’s also that other saying “History repeats itself.” And then of course, “Good music never dies”.

I went to Lisa Loeb concert last night. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t realize who she was until I was at the show. Oops…

Side note:

I got these VIP tickets from a fundraiser and I took my mentor/friend to it. I let her choose the show of her choice and  she was super excited and I’m happy. I’m glad I was able to do that for her!

Needless to say, as soon as I figured out that her hits “Stay” and “I do”, I knew exactly who she was. It was reliving my 90’s childhood from elementary school.

No surprise at all,she was very good even after all these years. Her corky, nerdy, library/rocker style is that kind of music that you will still find on the radio.

I’m very happy I went to the show, because it just reminded me that if you were good then, you are probably good now. She didn’t disappoint. I hope you all get the chance to see her!

The Best Time of Year: Touring/Festival Season

I’m not going to lie, I get really excited for this time of year!

It’s not only the warmest time of year (Or getting there). It is also the time of year for baseball pants and outdoor concerts!

I really love what I do, and that’s why I fight for it every day. Which is why, I can proudly say, I’m finally going on tour. Well technically I already started but you get what I’m saying.

I’m working merch for an artist here in Nashville, I’ll be headed to Milwaukee and Des Moines this weekend. As excited as I am for this new opportunity, I’m also very nervous. Because most of my work is working with artists, agents, VIPs, not handling clothing.

Needless to say, I’m digging the gig so far. I like the band, the TM/PM, the bus driver, her manager; So far, everyone is down to earth and chill.

…But it’s the beginning of touring season, let’s see how this goes when November rolls around.

Tin Pan South

So a lot of people don’t know that I’ve written a couple of songs, some have actually been quote on quote published. But I don’t want to make a living out of that. Because I know I’m not as talented as some people I know. Let’s be honest, I’m not the best. And I know I’m not the best.

But what I am good at is understanding what it takes to be a damn good songwriter. It takes a lot of self starting, self motivation and your own creativity. Some people don’t get discovered ever and some people make it over night, it’s just the way the dice roll.

What’s great out Tin Pan South: It’s a songwriter festival dedicated to ready for this, the songwriters of Nashville! This years lineup was really strong and let me just say the lines were really, really long to get in to most venues. I actually couldn’t get into two of them.

So support those who do this for a living, literally write lyrics for a living. It’s not as easy as you think it is.

You Do It For The Music

I’ll be completely honest,I haven’t really gone to any shows lately. I know I’m failing at life. Mainly, I’m trying to save money because I’m pre-approved to buy a house! I’m also traveling as much as I can, and I’m also going to meetings and interviews like crazy! Because I’m a workaholic.

But long story I’ve been super busy, I think this is my first time blogging in about two or three weeks. And I really don’t have anything to say besides festival season and baseball season are upon us.

And also, I want you to remember,  your friends who play and the local artists who do this for a living, for a living. We really don’t live off much, we are actually pretty poor in this industry.

I met with a girl from Marquette University (which is my alumni), and the one thing I told her was “If you want to be in this industry, you do it for the music, not for the money”.

“Welcome to Nashville”

Networking: It’s not only a skill, it’s something you must also be really good at, if you want to make it in the industry. I’m not kidding, the only reason why I’ve made it as far as I’ve had is because of networking and social media stalking.

Because you won’t make it anywhere without networking and a support system who believes in you. But at the same time, you have to want it, you have to want it so bad. When you want it that bad, that’s when networking comes much easier, because you know what you want.

There are a lot musicians in this town,  a lot. Some are extremely talented, some are not. An artist that I believe is talented is Anderson East. He’s also Miranda Lambert’s new boyfriend! But really, he’s got a lot of soul in his music and a lot of passion behind his music. Just listen to him, I’m sure you will appreciate his music as much as I do!

If you want to get a glimpse of Nashville, here it is in a nut shell!

“I’m a 90’s baby, in my 80’s Mercedes”

It’s funny how we discover music. Sometimes it’s through the radio, other times it’s through social media like YouTube. Most of the time, I hear about new music through my good friends.

One of my friends is very good about posting on his Instagram about upcoming artists/damn good artists in general. Because let’s face it, we all don’t want good music to die.

Maren Morris has been around for a while, but now, is starting to get her career going. She recently opened three nights in Nashville for Chris Stapleton and she will be going out on tour with Keith Urban. Talk about making some progress, she’s on a roll!

But it’s mainly because, she’s down good ol’ country. You know, like what country is really about. Telling stories about life. Her tunes are catchy and the melody is something you can rock out to with the windows rolled down. And the best part is, she only has an EP out, which means, she doesn’t even have an album out. I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next!

Grammys 2016

I’m sure most of you watched the Grammys. And to say the least, I don’t think it was the most exciting event, but I have to admit. But I’am  really happy with the majority of the rockstars who actually won awards.

I don’t remember the whole list, but I’m extremely excited that Chris Stapleton and Kendrick Lamar won big! Good for those guys, they deserve it!

But just in case you live under a rock, here are the best and worst moments from 2016 Grammys in the link below.

I’m extremely happy about the nominees for the women’s country category. Especially Kacey Musgraves and Ashley Monroe.

I wrote a blog about Kacey a while back, but I absolutely love her music. She’s down to earth Texas country. She writes these stories that are relatable. It’s simple and beautiful.

Ashley is a quote a quote “newer artist”. She’s really not, she’s been around, but she’s finally getting the recognition she deserves. Her song “If love was Fair” is amazing. And as I’m writing, I’m listening to it on repeat. Check her out!

“Drunk People”

Dating is such a weird thing. Because it’s a grey area of “do I like you, or do I not like you”.  Will this work, what if it crashes and burns? But just remember, everyone is in the same boat. Everyone is an idiot when it comes to dating… right?

There should be more songs about awful dates, but I think it’s more fun to write about drunk people… right?

Ryan Hurd, an upcoming country artist in town is singing about it. As we speak. I’ve seen him perform a couple of times now.

Obviously being a guy, it’s much easier to write about drunk people and girls… right?

Yeah, I think so too. I’m lucky enough to know the guys that won’t the song with him. It’s catchy and it’s true! If there is one thing I can appreciate about the new upcoming country artist in Nashville. They are real, they write about real things and it’s meaningful. …Well I don’t know about drunk people, but the rest of country music!

Check it out!

“Ex’s and Oh’s”… No She Didn’t!

I think I finally got it together, and I’ll bring this blog back to what it is suppose to be. A music blog.

I want this blog, to be another outlet so readers can gain more insight on  festival experiences, good music to listen to and overall just plain, damn good music.

At least, that’s what I hope it to be. But don’t worry, I’ll still cry me a river once in a while on here…

As I drove on my way up to Milwaukee, I was listening, on blast Elle King. Why? Because she’s a badass chick who has blues rock influenced in her music. Don’t get me wrong, I love her single “Ex’s and Oh’s”, but the rest of her album is not like that. At all.

Also, just like every other musician, she struggled in Nashville to fit in, and just like everyone else, she worked really damn hard to get to where she wants to be.

Her music isn’t just good, she’s just really awesome!
