Getting Back in the Game

As I get back into writing and playing music again, I always forget about how hard it is to get into the music. I guess it’s just trying to be in the moment kind of thing and I lose that moment so quickly.

That’s always been my issue growing up when I had a hard time sitting at the piano. I would get bored so easily playing scales and chords. And then I would get frustrated when I couldn’t play a song right away.

Needless to say, I wasn’t the best musician growing up because I would get bored and frustrated very, very easily.

As I get older, I realize how happy I am that I played music growing up. Because now, I’m looking for more gigs, and playing piano might be one of them.

Yes, I need a lot of work. But I think I can get my motivation and inspiration back. Hopefully,it works out, stay tuned!

Powerful Woman

Since it is Election Day, I will talk about powerful women… No, I’m not talking about Hillary. I’m talking about Stevie Nicks! She is an incredible performer and amazing woman.

Working with an artist, sometimes you can see the transition when they start out super humble and super gracious. Over time, as they grow a fan base and more people tell them how “awesome” they are, they start to lose sight of where they came from.

I will say this about Stevie, AKA Lindsay, she still rocks  on stage. And you can tell when she tells her stories, how much she remembers people and little important details in her life. That she still cares and she doesn’t take her career and life for granted. She’s genuine.

I think that’s what makes her performance so great. Did I mention her lighting was incredible!

I will be the first to say, I’m not a huge fan. I don’t listen to her much, I love classic rock music. But just never was a huge fan. But now I am!

Being Cold Sucks

I seriously hate this time of year. Sure the holidays are coming up, but there’s really nothing going on. Besides football and Halloween parties. Also, it’s starting to get cold, and there’s a reason why I moved away from the cold. The cold just sucks. No me gusta.

As things start to wind down and the holidays are coming up, what do people do in this town. That’s a good question, and here’s the answer for you. Nothing, they do nothing. There’s nothing going on. So most people right now are doing nothing. Luckily for me, I like money and money likes me, so I find things to keep me busy.

Because being busy is really important to me, I can’t just stand around. It drives me nuts! But the problem is, I like to save money too, so I’m being a loner like everyone else in Nashville.

It’s time like these, this is where you make it or break it with your sanity. This is where you figure out who’s in it for the long run and who’s going to be running out of town.

“And Will You Tell All Your Friends”

We all have that band. That band that brings back high school memories. That band we had on repeat on our CD players… Yes I’m talking about the days of CD players.

That band that you would wait a few hours before doors opened to be the first in line and the first to run to the stage. For me, I had to sneek out so I didn’t wait outside, but you get my picture.

My band was Taking Back Sunday. I’ve been a fan of theirs for as long as I can remember. I used to listen “Tell All Your Friends” like it was my job. Constant, on repeat.

I remember correctly, I went to see them in Milwaukee when I was 15. I think that’s right, but I can’t remember the year. But anyways, I haven’t seen them since. And 11 years, needless to say, I’m really excited I got to see them live again. They still are rocking it and their fans still love them!

Next Step… Don’t be a B*tch

Here’s the real trick to the industry. Getting in, is the toughest part. I feel being a woman who has blonde hair and blue eyes, it’s extremely tough. Luckily for me, there are so many people who I’ve worked with, that really respect me. Thank. God.

Alright, when you make it past that point, what’s next. Sure it’s the college text book “You’ve got to have skills”, right …. Well maybe not necessarily. I will never sit here and say I know everything about merch, artist hospitality, production, transportation, you know it, I’m not sure about every aspect. Why, because I’m still learning. I need to. I don’t have all the skills I need. Not yet at least!

Someone once told me, half of the job is the job itself the other half is to be able to hang. I want to throw my input in there and saying “fake it til you make it” really has come a long way for me. Because sometimes having confidence is the key to success.Just don’t be a b*tch about it.

If there’s one thing I got from working Pilgrimage this weekend, I’ve really stepped up my game!

Festivals on Festivals on Festivals

For people that think that throwing on an event is easy, you are so wrong.
I know people who have a hard time planning their own birthday party, imagine throwing a birthday party for 10,000 people. Then think about food, parking, sponsors, the artists and most importantly budget. Just think about that and plus more for 10,000-50,000 of your closest friends. Do you think you could pull it off?

I’m not saying my job is rocket science, but it’s definitely not a cake walk either. I hope people appreciate the amount of work, sweat and tears it takes to put on a good show. And if it’s a damn good show, you the know the price is right.

This will be my second year working Rock the Green. To say the least I’m really excited about it. I’m excited to see everyone I worked with again, I’m excited about working another festival but more importantly, I’m excited to be home.

If you are in Milwaukee, come on by and say hi!

“Road Less Traveled”

I was thinking really hard… Wait a minute… When am I not thinking.

I was thinking about my career and where I want it to go. And to be completely honest, I’m not sure where I want it to go or where the hell I’m going. Hopefully it’s up! I just want to continue to make progress!

Because like everyone else in the world, I want to conquer it and do everything possible!
I truly believe in the artist I work for. She has a great voice and she really stands for all the good things in music.

Not only do I want to help her career, but I want to help her conquer of her dreams as well. Now tell me, how is it possible to do all things? Maybe it is, you just have to keep your focus and go for the gold!

If you are an early bird (Which I’m not), check out Lauren Alaina on the Today show tomorrow!

“What’s Left of Me”

I’ve been thinking a lot about what I really want out of my career. Like, what is it that I really want, what I’m trying to aim for and where I’m going.

Because the truth is, now I want even more than what I have now. That is probably extremely selfish of me because some people won’t make it at all or won’t come close to what they want out of their career. But hey, I think it’s extremely selfish when people have kids and they call them “minnie me”. Because they are just people, not you.

I really want to push my limits to see what I can do with my career in music. How I can help my fellow musicians, producers, event managers because at the end of the day, it takes a team to make everything happen.

If you follow my blog, you know I’ve worked really hard to get to where I am. I will be the first to say, I am really ready to take the next step in my career. Have more responsibilities and to be in charge of more decisions.

We all have to go somewhere…

Is Summer the Worst Time of Year for BNA?

So here’s a little tid bit about what’s going on in Nashville… not much at all. Ironically, my home state is killing it with country and rock festivals left and right. Nashville right now is primarily dead. Sure you have local festivals and get togethers, but besides tourism, that’s pretty much it.

Why?

This is the time of year where everyone is out of town working. We are all traveling to different states and venues to put on a show. I should say, if you are in the production world or are a musician, you are like me, who is traveling a lot at the moment.

Not to say it’s a bad thing if you are still in town working. Remember, we have a lot of agencies, management and crew companies in town. So there are people who still work a lot. Also, if you are trying to make it on stage, remember, you have to start somewhere.

In other words, I thought about this really hard. I think Nashville is a great town, except in the winter and summer. Summer everyone is traveling and working and winter sucks because no one is working.

Farewell Tour

It’s not every day that I make an effort to actally go out of my way to go and see a band. Two main reasons:

1. I’m a spoiled brat and I can go to concerts for free or I either work them.

2. I know the band will come back around and I can see them another time (see reason number 1.)

This is a side note here * I know this sounds like a really bratty thing to say. I’ll be the first to admit it. Please don’t judge me. I promise I’m a semi decent person.*

But I will say this, if you don’t go and see Motion City Soundtrack Farewell Tour, you are truly missing out. I’ve worked with them a couple times, the guys are so nice and extremely talented. Please do me a favor, if you read this please do see Motion City if they come to a city near you. It’s once a once in a lifetime punk rock band for sure.
