Less Than a Week!

Less than a week, I’m moving to Music City! Long story short, I’m super pumped! I’m going in with a clear mind and high spirits! Even if I failed, at least I can say I tried, because at the end of the day, I’m doing this for me and only me.

And I’m hoping , I can start my life in Nashville or in another city. Somewhere where there is good music, warmer weather and new adventures!

Harder than it Seems

So this whole moving thing is becoming very overwhelming and frustrating. It’s one thing to want to move and all, it’s another thing to try to find a place to live… when you don’t live there. It’s a lot harder than it seems.

But hopefully things will work out in the end and by August I hope to be living and working in Nashville.  I guess I’ll see where life takes me, one way or another I’m going to end up there!

Production In Music

I don’t know why I didn’t write about this a long time ago. But everyone that I know always ask me “what do you do in music?”. I tell them, “I work in production.”… (silence)… (Them)”What does that mean?”

It means I help put on the show. Whether that’s being a runner, a production assistant, a stage manager… it pretty much means if my team and I weren’t there, there wouldn’t be a show.

Then people ask me, “Well that means all you have to do is work during the show, right?”… “Not necessarily, I work ahead of time, you would be surprised how much work goes into putting a huge festival or concert together.” (Them)” Oh, I didn’t know that, that’s pretty cool.”

So the next time you decide to go to a show and complain that the band is  five minutes late, know that there is a crew working behind the scenes fixing the problem to get the band out there. In a nutshell: There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes of a show.

Local Bands

I love going to shows. I honestly could care less if I knew every song off the album or if I’ve never heard of them.

Which is why I love supporting local bands. Sure, some of them are just cover bands, but at least they like to jam. My favorite local band right now is The Listening Party.

Yes, they are close friends of mine, but they actually have some original music that is pretty damn good. And no matter what kind of music you like, I think any music guru will like them because their music is pop rock/ a bit of alternative edge kick to it.

And lucky them, I got them a gig this year at one of my jobs. Needless to say, I felt good doing them a service, but at the same time, they deserved it. Because not every local band gets recognized and it’s about time they do.Besides, if you are going to make it big, it all starts with the local fan support.

I have been so bad when it comes to keeping up with my blog. It’s amazing when you lose a full time gig how much time you fill it up with!

As y’all know, SXSW changed my life, in many positive ways. It’s made me realize what I really want out of life but also look at life as it’s more of opportunities rather than doubts.

With that being said, I had my plans set on Austin. But due to recent events in my life and with more jobs in Nashville, it looks like as of now, I’m moving to Nashville.

Please don’t call me wish washy. I love both cities and will end up living in both at some point in my life. But as of now, Nashville looks like it’s calling my name.

Starting from the Bottom

A lot of people say to me, “You know you have a long haul ahead of you”. Meaning I’m going to have to work my butt off to get to where I want to be. And I tell them… “Yeah, so what? At least my life will be worth of value and accomplishment when I get there versus living a life that has a 9 to 5 job.”

It’s like anything in life, you have to start from the very bottom. Work your networks, your skills and yourself to get to where you want to be. If you want it bad enough, you will get there.

Here’s something for everyone reading this post: Follow your dream. Do what you want to do, and eventually you’ll be where you want to be.

Ways to Find New Music

One of the things people ask me about music : I want to listen to a new band I’ve never heard of before, what’s a good way to find a band?

10 years ago, that would have been a little harder. Well it’s 2014, and here are a couple of ways to find good bands:

YouTube and Spotify make a huge difference when it comes to free streaming of music. It allows you to find “related artists” and recommendations that suite your music taste.

But besides streaming music, you can also get your head out of your phone or computer and ask a friend. You would be surprised what people would listen to. Most of my friends have awesome taste in music.

But honestly, another great way to find music is “free” iTunes music. If you look closely, on the right hand side of your screen, you can see a “free” section. Click on it, and they have random free singles every week. Most of the bands I’ve heard of, but this week they have a spanish group, and that’s pretty cool because otherwise I probably wouldn’t have heard of them.

And don’t be afraid to look at music websites or radio station websites, they also have free downloads of local bands and such! Awesomesauce right! I just saved you money and found you ways to listen to awesome bands you have never heard of before!

This is an example of a single that was on iTunes a couple of weeks ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UK6J5SKJing

“I’ll Rock You Like the Sea”

As time goes on, you mature in many ways. Me for example, I’ve not only matured with my attitude and the way I see the world, but my taste in food and most importantly music. Yes, my first CD was the Offspring, thanks to my dad. But like most 7-year-old girls, I was heavily influenced by my friends. Which is why my second CD was the Spice Girls…

But luckily for me, I was surrounded by musicians and people with open minds, and from them, I learned to appreciate all types of music. Let me make that clear, I don’t like all kinds of music, I appreciate it, because at the end of the day, they are making millions of dollars doing what they love, and I am not.

I had a friend a couple of years ago introduce me to an artist named ZZ Ward. And my friend was flabbergasted by the fact I had no idea who she was. So like anyone, I gave her a listen and now I can’t stop listening to her either! I’ve literally turned into my friend who can’t stop talking about her. With her jazzy rhythms and catchy lyrics, she’s an artist for anyone who appreciates good music.

…I should also mention, I consider ZZ Ward a peek at my mature taste in music!

I write because…

A lot of people don’t know that I write a lot. I think it’s because I mostly keep it to myself, because it’s a way of expressing myself in ways that I normally can’t. I found that music and writing, when you put them together creates songwriting. Not to say that I’m the best at it, but it’s one of the  ways I express myself.

I feel that there are different outlets in life to express your emotions, thoughts and feelings. Everyone is different and we need to stop being so judgmental about it. Like every song ever written, every single person is different. Why judge someone because they are different from you?

I write because I’m different, I’ve been judge my whole life.Because like every song, I’m different from the next one. Writing music, lyrics and blogs in general allows me to understand the world of me. It makes me see the bigger picture. And it’s help me not to judge people and who they are.
