“I’m a 90’s baby, in my 80’s Mercedes”

It’s funny how we discover music. Sometimes it’s through the radio, other times it’s through social media like YouTube. Most of the time, I hear about new music through my good friends.

One of my friends is very good about posting on his Instagram about upcoming artists/damn good artists in general. Because let’s face it, we all don’t want good music to die.

Maren Morris has been around for a while, but now, is starting to get her career going. She recently opened three nights in Nashville for Chris Stapleton and she will be going out on tour with Keith Urban. Talk about making some progress, she’s on a roll!

But it’s mainly because, she’s down good ol’ country. You know, like what country is really about. Telling stories about life. Her tunes are catchy and the melody is something you can rock out to with the windows rolled down. And the best part is, she only has an EP out, which means, she doesn’t even have an album out. I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next!

Grammys 2016

I’m sure most of you watched the Grammys. And to say the least, I don’t think it was the most exciting event, but I have to admit. But I’am  really happy with the majority of the rockstars who actually won awards.

I don’t remember the whole list, but I’m extremely excited that Chris Stapleton and Kendrick Lamar won big! Good for those guys, they deserve it!

But just in case you live under a rock, here are the best and worst moments from 2016 Grammys in the link below.

I’m extremely happy about the nominees for the women’s country category. Especially Kacey Musgraves and Ashley Monroe.

I wrote a blog about Kacey a while back, but I absolutely love her music. She’s down to earth Texas country. She writes these stories that are relatable. It’s simple and beautiful.

Ashley is a quote a quote “newer artist”. She’s really not, she’s been around, but she’s finally getting the recognition she deserves. Her song “If love was Fair” is amazing. And as I’m writing, I’m listening to it on repeat. Check her out!

“Drunk People”

Dating is such a weird thing. Because it’s a grey area of “do I like you, or do I not like you”.  Will this work, what if it crashes and burns? But just remember, everyone is in the same boat. Everyone is an idiot when it comes to dating… right?

There should be more songs about awful dates, but I think it’s more fun to write about drunk people… right?

Ryan Hurd, an upcoming country artist in town is singing about it. As we speak. I’ve seen him perform a couple of times now.

Obviously being a guy, it’s much easier to write about drunk people and girls… right?

Yeah, I think so too. I’m lucky enough to know the guys that won’t the song with him. It’s catchy and it’s true! If there is one thing I can appreciate about the new upcoming country artist in Nashville. They are real, they write about real things and it’s meaningful. …Well I don’t know about drunk people, but the rest of country music!

Check it out!

“Courage, Please Don’t Fail Me Now”

Yay! According to WordPress, It’s my four year anniversay on WordPress… Now, where’s my hot toddy.

…Oh wait, I’m already drinking it. Today in Nashville, we are having a “snow day”. Don’t get me wrong, it’s cold here… but there sure ain’t no snow! And that’s why I’m drinking a hot toddy.

But with that being said, there’s a lot of people that are in Nashville that are from the south. Which is not a bad thing, especially when it comes to music. A lot of southern musicians started singing in church. Heck, look at queen bee AKA Beyonce!

I’ve always had a thing with music from Texas. Especially Texas country. Don’t get me wrong, I like music from all different parts of the country, put Texas country really hits home with me.

I’m lucky to call my Ryan Beaver my friend. He was one of the first people I met here, and I try to go see him perform whenever I can. Because damn, it is some good Texas country.

Rolling Stone named him one of the top country artists to watch for, he’s also been on Sirius XM radio and has over 30,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

If you don’t believe me, take a listen for yourself.

“Forever Cold”

So I went to this event… Me, going to an event, so unheard of! (Sarcasm at its’ max!) I went to this event back in March. I had to work that night, so I couldn’t stay long. But there was this band, I never heard of in my life. They were the opening act, two acts before Scars on 45. I can honestly say, they blew me away!

The Band is called Smooth Hound Smith. They have a blues, folk, americana sound to their music. It’s quite catchy if you ask me. I’ve be lucky enough to see them a couple more times because I think they are quite good.

But the cool thing about them is the duo is  just them. Making all the wonderful music. And they are based out of East Nashville, so that’s pretty baller too!

If you are looking to check out a new band, look no further, this duo is the bees knees! Find them on the information highway!

… The internet if you didn’t get the reference!

“Ex’s and Oh’s”… No She Didn’t!

I think I finally got it together, and I’ll bring this blog back to what it is suppose to be. A music blog.

I want this blog, to be another outlet so readers can gain more insight on  festival experiences, good music to listen to and overall just plain, damn good music.

At least, that’s what I hope it to be. But don’t worry, I’ll still cry me a river once in a while on here…

As I drove on my way up to Milwaukee, I was listening, on blast Elle King. Why? Because she’s a badass chick who has blues rock influenced in her music. Don’t get me wrong, I love her single “Ex’s and Oh’s”, but the rest of her album is not like that. At all.

Also, just like every other musician, she struggled in Nashville to fit in, and just like everyone else, she worked really damn hard to get to where she wants to be.

Her music isn’t just good, she’s just really awesome!

“It’s Never Quite as it Seems”

As I sit here reading Chelsea Handler books, I realize I’m a straight up loser sitting in on a Friday night and not going out. Well not really that, I feel more like a loser because no one responds to my emails. And that my friend said to me he wants to “rent” my N64 games from me, instead of actually inviting me over to play. That’s straight up loser status.

But enough about me whining about how pathetic I am, I’m starting to lose my creativity. Because I haven’t been writing songs, I haven’t been going out, and my blogs are pretty pathetic. I really hope I get some inspiration soon, because I’m about to go nuts.

It doesn’t help, that people don’t return my calls or e-mails or the fact that I’ve been turned down from every job since September.

Then I remembered, that the holidays are coming up. People are busy. And the world does not revolve around me. Thank god it doesn’t, because I don’t want that much attention.

In other news: Happy Birthday Keith Richards!

My Birthday:What I’ve Learned

Yesterday was  my birthday. Yes, I am a year older. Yes, I have more wrinkles and more cellulite. The joys of getting older. And I still don’t have a roadie job lined up for next year. But as I went to McKay’s today to look through thousands of discounted books, I realized, I may not be where I want to be right now, but I’m constantly trying to work on making myself better.

I work out, read, continue to reach out to those who know more than me, and most importantly, trying to do whatever I can to be the best person I can be.

And so here is my promise to myself:

To continue to work on getting on the road

To always look on the bright side of things

To make sure the people that are important to me get my attention and the attention they deserve

But most importantly,I want to stay true to myself and always believe in myself

I never thought I would post a Justin Bieber song, but this is brilliant! #loveyourself

What The Hell Am I Doing?

I’m currently sitting at Denver airport… to go to Florida. What the hell, am I gong all the way to Denver to go to Florida?

Seriously? I have to go half way across the country to go all the way down to the other side of the country? That seems a little backwards to me, if you know what I mean.

But here’s why I’m doing it. So I can  see my family, for free. Yes for free. My mom used to work for the airline so we had some extra benefits rollover.

Here’s the thing about anything that comes for free or for cheap. Most of the time, it’s not worth it. I recently got a haircut, for a very cheap price. And it is by far the worst haircut, I’ve ever received in my entire life. How bad? I asked for a trim, and the woman gave me a Pauly D cut.

My point: I think the reason why the music industry is so hard to get into it, because you have to work really hard for your career and passion. Nothing good in life is cheap, free and easy to come by.

So I’ll take the lower paying jobs, and the long hours and the hard work, because I know it will pay off.

Don’t fall into the Deep End

The music industry is hard to get into. Guy or girl. You really need to have a personality, a good work ethic and great skill set. Unfortunately, majority of people can be really rude, so there goes one third of them. Unfortunately again, majority of people my generation feel that should have things handed to them. So again there goes another one third of the people. Then there are the people with skills. I would say another one third of the people don’t possess this.

So if you are good at math, you would need to know that even if you have two out the three, there’s a good chance you won’t get the job. The one I would say you could get away with is a crappy personality, because let’s face it, if you shut up and get the job done, that’s really all that matters.

So with that being said, I hate to compare my personal and professional life. But it is true, I’m starting to look at friends like they are clients. And if friends aren’t awesome, won’t put in the effort to create a great friendship and don’t utilize their strengths and put them to good use, I feel that makes you a very lazy friend.

My point is: No matter what in life, treat people the way you want to be treated. Work really hard at anything you do in life. And always remember good things come with time.
